Fear of the Future

Willis Harman at Cambridge 2Willis Harman People typically, in modern society, assume that fear is just naturally with us, something out there in our environment around us causes the fear. One of the characteristics of the emerging world-view, I think, is that fear is a choice - at least at an unconscious level. But you decide how you're going to perceive reality and the factors in it and which ones are really fearful.

People who sense some of the change that's taking place and have not become part of the shifted world-view tend to fear what they see in the near-term future. Global problems seem to be getting worse and worse and nobody seems to be able to do anything with them. And they don't even get talked about in Presidential campaigns because there are a lot of politically safer issues that you can talk about!

But the deep discovery, which is sometimes being taught nowadays, to business executives and others, is that fear is something you can learn to do without. You can learn to deeply trust the essential nature of yourself, the essential nature of the Universe and as that grows, the fear goes away. And as that trust deepens, you find that you're perfectly capable of living through a transition period, even if it does involve the destruction of a lot of powerful institutions and the creation of a lot of new things.
